Australia has two major grain cropping regions; the north, from Central Queensland to northern New South Wales, and the south, from central New South Wales to the southwestern corner of Western Australia. Although many of the seeds planted in these regions are similar, such as wheat, barley, and oats, they tend to operate during different weather-dependent timings, and present different strategies to deal with the differences in rainfall. Wheat is the major leading crop in Australia, followed by barley, canola, and pulses.<\/p>\n

As rural Australian populations have declined, demand for workers in farming roles has increased. If you’re interested in finding work on one of Australia’s 8,000+ cropping farms, your best bet is to be familiar with machinery such as tractors and combine harvesters, or to have all-rounder Farm Hand experience. You’ll also be better suited to cereal farming jobs if you’re comfortable with completing seasonal contracts, and are happy travelling from one farm to another depending on the businesses’ needs.
