4. Luke

Luke is one of the most fascinating men I have spoken to in the course of my job, and having peaked in his career, he wants to pivot into something different. Starting with a Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture from Western Sydney University, Luke’s career has spanned over 20 years. It has taken him through all aspects of horticulture, hydroponics, vineyards, landscaping and general farm hand work. He has held long-term leadership positions in horticultural and landscaping businesses, so he has gained skills and experience working closely with clients, staff and advisers in various capacities.

Luke has soft skills that you would not usually find in a Farm Hand, including a high level of communication, critical thinking and problem solving skills, design, planning upcoming planting and harvesting schedules, and a deep understanding of the science behind soil and plants.

Luke has asked us to find him a role in broadacre cropping, something different, but where he can use his skills and knowledge while learning another side of agriculture, which he has always wanted to get involved in.

Having spent some time in the sheep yards and mustering with quads, Luke would be happy to go into a Mixed Farm Hand role to have some variety in his day-to-day work life. He has his HR licence and is happy to use it in the course of his employment.

As you can imagine, a man with his credentials and experience, Luke is handy with all things fencing, irrigation installation & chemical application. His references speak of his work ethic, professionalism and attention to detail. As a single, mature-aged man, Luke tells us that he is open to all opportunities across NSW where he can fit into a crew, learn new skills and share his knowledge.
