put your stock in an established and growing industry

You’d be hard pressed to find another agriculutural industry that offers the same diversity of work that livestock does. Managing all the different kinds of animals present on Australian farms and stations—pigs, cows, sheep and chooks, to name some—requires a great deal of different duties to be performed. Depending of the type of livestock, you may need to draft, tag, vaccinate, brand, castrate, dehorn, drench, or calve the animals. Besides this, stations require Feedlot Operators to keep their livestock fed, watered, and sheltered, while other farms will require cattle to be mustered, either on horseback or on motorbike. While mustering, Stockmen and Musterers will need to be able to draft, hold the cut, tail, and block cattle up, so experience is extremely valued in these roles. If you’d like to muster but haven’t got the necessary experience, you can work as a Jackaroo or Jillaroo to gain more experience. Finally, Fencers are needed to maintain the fencing, troughts, and other farm infrastructure to ensure that the livestock is properly protected.

The Australian livestock industry provides employment for around 155,000 people, and is forecast to continue to grow in the coming years due to strong demand for Australian meat and livestock products internationally.
