Allow me to introduce you to John and Emily. John and Emily manage their own rural contracting business, specialising in mustering, branding, and weaner education along with farm maintenance. They are now eager to transition into a full-time role on a station.

John originally from Central QLD, has grown up on the land and started working alongside his family from a young age. John’s early exposure to the industry has propelled John into various station roles in the industry, he has spent his time across QLD working in positions as a Station Hand before successfully starting his own rural contracting business. John has the skills and ambition to succeed in any Station Hand role. He is proficient in all aspects of cattle husbandry including mustering, weighing, branding, and weaning. John has his handy educated working dogs and horses and is experienced mustering via horses, bike, and quad and has experience with mustering in aid of a helicopter.

Additionally, his skills span across to the property development side including the installation of new fences and repair of barb and ring lock fences as well as installing both wooden and steel end assemblies and water infrastructures like tanks, troughs, and running of poly pipe. John is competent in operating a range of earthmoving machinery and agriculture machinery such as tractors, dozers, loaders, bobcats, forklifts, and telehandlers and is confident in completing services and maintenance on machinery. He is handy with a stick and a mig welder. With leadership skills from running his contracting crew, he excels in communication skills and working independently or within a team. John has completed his Certificates II and III in Agriculture and has his MR licence.

Emily hails from Central QLD where she grew up on a property working alongside her family in all station duties and often helped out on neighbouring properties during mustering. This is where Emily’s passion for the agriculture industry started, and her love for horses. After completing school, Emily studied Certificate III in Agriculture and Certificate II in Animal Studies where she took a full-time role in a vet clinic as a Vet Nurse for 2 years. During her time in this role, Emily was often placed as the Anaesthesia Nurse during surgeries of animals of all sizes. While working as a Vet Nurse, Emily realised her true passion lies in the agriculture industry and started full-time contracting alongside her partner John. Emily excels in all aspects of cattle husbandry such as processing cattle, branding, and weaner education, experienced in mustering via horse, two-wheeler, quad, and buggy with or without the aid of a helicopter.

With a diverse skill set, Emily’s skills also span across to the property development side including installing and repairing fences and water infrastructure along. Emily is also competent in operating agriculture and earthmoving machinery such as tractors, loaders, bobcats, and telehandlers. Emily not only possesses experience in the ag industry, but her role as a Vet Nurse has also honed her communication skills, problem-solving, time management, and computer skills. Emily brings her handy team of working dogs and horses who are well-educated and well-mannered.
